Library

         The Library at UCME is a learning resource center catering information requirements of its users. About 2000 volumes of text books and over 12 journals / magazines, Newsletters, Newspapers etc. are available in the library.

The library is opened from 9.30 am to 4pm every day except Sundays and holidays.

Library Services
a) Circulation- Books issue/return facility is available to all the users.
b) OPAC- Online Public Access Catalogue is provided for searching the library catalogues. Users can search any of the books or journals available in the library.

c) Reference Services- a separate section is maintained for reference. Costly and multiple copied books are available in this section. Reference books are will not be issued to anyone.

Special issues
 
         Students, who wish to get books issued from the library on special permission, must give request in the prescribed form available in the library at least 2 days before leaving from this centre for Clinical Posting OR Study Leave OR Vacation. The request to Librarian should be recommended by the concerned faculty ie. Class coordinator/HOD Project Guide. 


No reference books will be issued from the library for whatever reason. Only 2 books are allowed at a time.
 
Study Leave / Vacation : 

       After declaring the study leave, students who wish to keep the library books for 15 days or less during their study leave / Vacation can do so, if Prior request is given and no renewal of books for such cases, If the students have taken the books before the study leave they have to return the books, if the reservation for that book exists. On declaration of study leave all the reservations of the books will cancel. If found that any one is keeping the books without renewing and returning, a heavy fine will charge from them. 

Librarian can cut off the renewal date at any stage of the book issue.  

Clinical Posting :

Each students either, Nursing / BPT Department can borrow maximum of 2 books from the library (depending on the availability of the books) when they leave the college for Clinical Posting at a remote place. They can keep them for 2 /3 months (based on the duration of clinical posting), without any renewals in between.
 

Renewals

  Books, if they are not reserved, can be renewed for a further period of 4 days by bringing the books to the library (only 1 renewal is allowed). Loan and reservation for the same book is allowed only after 4 days. Librarian can cut off the renewal date at any stage of the book issue. 


Heavily reserved books are lent only for 2 days, no renewal will be allowed.


Overdue Charges (fine)
Books returned after the due date, fine will be charged at the rate of 
Rs.1/ day for the first 5 days,   Rs.5/ day exceeding days, for each delay


Loss of Borrower Card / Identity Card 
  • The Members are responsible for Library borrower card issued to them. 
  • Loss of Library borrower card should be reported to the Circulation section and Text-books section immediately and fill up the application form available. 
  • Duplicate Library borrower card will be issued on payment of Rs. 50/- after one weeks time from the date of application.
  • Members shall be responsible for any loss which Library may suffer through the loss or misuse of their borrower card.

Care and Loss of Library Books 

  •  Members are responsible for the books issued to them. Please check all items before they are taken out of the library and report mutilation or damage, if any, immediately. Members shall not write upon, damage or mark any book belonging to the Library. 

  • Loss of Library books should be reported to the Circulation section  immediately and fill up the application form available.

  • In case of loss of book by the borrower he/she shall either replace the book or bear its cost. 
  • If the book of a multi volume set is damaged or lost the member concerned shall be liable to replace the whole set. You will be asked to pay for the books , lost or returned in mutilated condition

ie. (Overdue charge + 3 times the original price of the material).

GENERAL RULES

 

  • Personal belongings such as books, bags, cases, printed materials, mobile phones, covers, projects/dissertations, food items etc. must be left at the property counter. However, the library will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal property left in its premises. If you find difficulty in using the library or in locating any specific information, contact the Librarian.

  • Silence is must inside the library. Discussions, combined study and other collective activities that make noise shall be avoided always. 

  • Mobile phones are not permissible in the Library. 

  • Member shall not smoke or spite in any part of the library. 

  • While browsing books, no book should be replaced by the user themselves.. 

  • Books once picked out from the stack should be left in the reading table if not issued out. 

  • Underlining, marking, folding of pages, etc. in the book is strictly prohibited. 

  • Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit privileges of admission and membership of the library.

  • The Director reserves the right to suspend or delinquent membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner. 

  • The members caught tearing of pages/stealing books or otherwise mutilating books will be suspended forthwith from using library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated against him/her by the college. 

  • Always use the Online Library Catalogue (OPAC). 

  • Library Committee : Members- Director, Librarian, HODs from each Department, Student Representatives from each course.

 

To use Information Reference Service and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) facility, members should come with their identity card.
